Fiona Gibb, RM, BM, PgCert HELT, MRes, SFHEA, is Director of Midwifery at the Royal College of Midwives, where she leads on professional practice, education, research and leadership. An experienced midwife, Fiona has worked with the NHS, UK governments, universities and professional organisations to influence national strategy, policy and guidance.
She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Edinburgh, exploring how generative artificial intelligence can support midwives’ professional development, leadership and career progression.
Fiona is honoured to be a Trustee of the Iolanthe Midwifery Trust, having seen first-hand the difference that Iolanthe's support can make to midwives and their professional development. In 2026, Fiona was delighted to receive an Iolanthe Midwives Award to support her PhD research. This has made her role as a Trustee particularly meaningful, giving her the opportunity to contribute to an organisation that has supported her own development while helping to create opportunities for others across the profession.
Fiona is passionate about advancing midwifery through education, research, evidence-based practice and strong professional leadership, and is committed to supporting Iolanthe’s work to invest in the future of midwifery.
