Farewell to Phoebe Pallotti

In October 2021 Iolanthe said a fond farewell to Phoebe Pallotti, who had been a Trustee since 2013 and also had the role of Vice Chair in previous years.

A practicing midwife, and Associate Professor in Midwifery, Phoebe's substantial former experience in charity management was also of great benefit to Iolanthe. She made a significant contribution on fundraising and advising on governance issues. The charity was also enriched by Phoebe's passion for feminism and professional interests including addressing health inequalities, global maternal health and maternity care during migration and diaspora.

Speaking of her time at Iolanthe, Phoebe said,

‘Being part of such a wonderful, supportive and positive organisation has been an absolute privilege and I've enjoyed my time with the trust immensely.

'The Iolanthe does vital work and so many midwives and families have been touched by our role in supporting and encouraging midwifery innovation and development. I will miss everyone terribly and hope to stay in touch with the exciting new work to come.’

Phoebe leaves to concentrate on her new organisation, the Sheffield Maternity Cooperative. Formed in 2019, the co-op is a collective of midwives, birth workers, families and people who feel passionately about community support throughout the perinatal experience. The non-profit organisation aims to provide solutions to problems existing in traditional maternity services and provide support to those whose voices and experiences are often excluded from mainstream care.
