Dr Elizabeth Bannon has been a midwife, Head of Midwifery and Co-Director of Maternity and Women’s services in the Belfast Trust for many years.
She was conferred the honour of OBE for services to Midwifery within Northern Ireland and holds membership with several organisations including Trustee of the charity ELSSA (Essential Life Savings Skills for Africa), Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Midwives and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast.
Recognising the importance of education to improving maternity care, Eliz has continued to develop her knowledge throughout her career, obtaining a Doctorate in Midwifery Practice in 2020. That link with education has been a theme throughout her career and she has worked as a volunteer on several projects with midwives in Uganda, Bangladesh, and South Sudan to support their development with a focus on building leadership.
Eliz is honoured to be the Chair of the Iolanthe Midwifery Trust and to work with the Team and Trustees to support our mission to promote and improve the care of women, birthing people, and families through funding education opportunities for midwives and students.
