The Iolanthe Midwifery Trust strives to ensure that the work of the Trust is as open and transparent as possible.

Financial accountability

The Iolanthe Midwifery Trust has a Financial Subcommittee (F-Sc) that considers all matters relating to finance and to recommend policies to the Board for adoption. The terms of reference may be downloaded here.

Members of the FS-C include:

Richard Donaldson (Financial Trustee, Adam & Co) - Chair of FS-C

James Brooks (Adam & Co)

Sue Eardley (Lay Trustee)

Elizabeth Duff (Executive Director, IMT)

Billie Hunter (Chair, IMT)

Details of accounts can also be accessed from the Charity Commission web site

Monitoring of awards

The Trust takes care to see that money paid out in awards is spent as intended and, where applicable, the 'product' represents good value for money. All award winners are required to provide evidence of expenditure and to provide a report on the activities funded by the award. More detailed monitoring of progress is required for the large awards such as the Research Fellowship.

Details of awards made can be found in the annual report.

Public benefit

The Charity Commission notes that for a charity to meet the public benefit requirement it must fulfil the following principles:

1. There must be an identifiable benefit or benefits.

2. Benefit must be to the public, or a section of the public. (Charity Commission 2008, C3)

For details on how we achieve these, please see the paper on Our Role in Maternal Health.

Trustee expenses and payments

The Trust has only one salaried position, that of the Executive Director. Trustees do not receive payment for their work, but are entitled to claim reasonable expenses for items such as travel to meetings.

Conflicts of interest

Trustees act to ensure that they do not put themselves in a position where their personal interests conflict with their duty to act in the interests of the Iolanthe Midwifery Trust. Trustees complete a form declaring any conflicts of interest and this is reviewed and updated annually at the Trust's meeting.
