2007 midwife award winner graduates with distinction

In 2007 the Iolanthe Midwifery Trust supported midwife Fiona Cross-Sudworth in her research exploring maternity services and the experiences of women of Pakistani origin. Pakistani women form the largest group of ethnic minority maternity service users in the UK. Although previous research has explored the maternity experiences of this group, there has been little research regarding inter-generational differences. Fiona's research provides valuable information which will assist service providers in ensuring appropriate and equitable care for women of Pakistani origin

Fiona submitted this work for her Master in Science in women's health at the University of Central England, Birmingham and we are delighted to report  that she has been awarded the degree with distinction. She writes "I heard officially that overall I attained a masters with distinction but that I was awarded 80% for my research. I was (am!) delighted and thought that I would let you know. Once again, I want to say how much your grant has helped me in the research process, relieving me of some of the huge amounts of stress that accompany conducting research.  It made a huge difference to me both financially but also in giving me a psychological boost in that someone else thought that the research subject was worth pursuing!! I am currently in the process of submitting the research for publication."
