2006 Iolanthe Midwifery Trust Awards & the Sandy Fyfe Memorial Lecture

The River Room at King’s College London, overlooking the Thames, was the striking location for the 2006 Iolanthe Midwifery Trust award presentations on the evening of November 6. Those attending also heard the Sandy Fyfe Memorial lecture, given this year by Dr Sally Marchant, retiring chair of the trust, who spoke on the topic, ‘Help is at hand: the concept of caring in education and professional development’. She brought personal memories and feelings to her presentation as well as highlighting the need for outstanding midwives to be supported and rewarded in their endeavours. After the lecture, Sally introduced the new chair, Professor Billie Hunter, and together they presented the award certificates to this year’s winners. Finally Billie gave a gift and warm thanks to Sally for her significant contribution to the work of the Trust over her years as chair.

 The IOLANTHE MIDWIFERY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The new look Midwifery Research Fellowship was awarded to Mary Stewart, who is in the final phase of her PhD studies at the University of the West of England. This fellowship will enable Mary to complete her doctorate degree by allowing her time out from her current practice.
